Little Bear Bottoms Family Farm:
A Journey of Resilience and Community

From Fish Farm to Family Fun

Little Bear Bottoms began as an 8-acre fish farm with horses in 1995. Over time, our family purchased surrounding land and ventured into sod farming. Cows, goats, chickens, alfalfa, field corn, and grain were also a part of what we did. The rocky soil and high-water table proved challenging, so after 15+ years of sod being our main focus, change was needed.

Innovation Born from Necessity

Making it as a farmer is tough and money was tight. Disney-style vacations were out of reach. Instead, we used creativity and imagination to have fun on the farm. We cleaned and cleared hillsides and used scraps of commercial flat-roofing material to make our first big slip ‘n slide. We made it for family and friends, but after inviting a church group, word got out and people started offering to pay to rent the slide. Who knew that could be a thing?! Through trial and error, this eventually became our 400 foot ‘Redneck Waterslide’! It allowed for fun while still being able to harvest sod. Now these same areas are known as parks for family/group gatherings.

The Birth of the Corn Maze

On part of the sod farm, bad grass made some of the sod unsaleable. We planted corn to clear the bad grass and planned to then return it to sod while selling the corn to a farmer friend in Hyrum, UT. Our journey took another turn when our farmer friend sold his cows and left us with a field full of unsold corn in August 2004. What to do now? As a family, we found a creative solution: transform the cornfield into a corn maze. While the start was very slow, the potential was clear. What was initially a huge setback has turned into a cornerstone, allowing the farm to continue running.

A Commitment to Farming, Community, and Family

Today, Little Bear Bottoms is known as a place of wholesome family recreation, but will always be first and foremost a farm. Our aim is to reintroduce animals and begin other produce to complete the regenerative cycle and nourish the land and community. We enjoy sharing the beauty of our farm and the fruits of our hard work. Our farm has become a gathering place for making memories and enjoying nature.
